 Fluence Guitars

Debuting at NAMM 2015 are these limited edition Fret-King guitars with Fishman’s Fluence Pickups systems.

Hand-built by Trev Wilkinson and his trusted luthier of many years Mike Smith, this very limited run of guitars will feature models from the
Fret-King Green Label Series with the amazingly innovative Fishman Fluence systems installed.

As well as countering the problems associated with convential pickups (such as the dreaded 60 cycle single-coil hum) Fluence also offer the player two distinct voicings, based on high-gain modern tones.

NAMM visitors can check the Fishman loaded Fret-King guitars out at the JHS booth (Hall B 5267) and Fishman booth (Hall C 4340)

Elliott Randall and Fret-King

Elliott Randall

In an illustrious career encompassing a wide and varied cross- section of the music industry including production, composition, electronic research and development, lectures, teaching, and of course, a legendary contribution to popular guitar performance and recording, Elliott Randall has also entered the rock history annals with his guitar solos on Steely Dan's "Reelin' In The Years" and "Fame" (the motion picture).

I am totally delighted with this instrument," (Fret-King Black Label Elise) says Elliott, "It looks, feels and sounds great. The Vari-coil provides a wide range of variations on a
tonal theme." In fact so delighted with his new guitar Elliott also got himself a Country Squire Semitone Special in Ash Green. “I was looking for something that could give
me that  classic ‘twang,’"   he said “and this Semitone Special is it! It plays beautifully - right out of the box; and did I mention that it looks gorgeous?”

Dave Hawkins

Dave with fret-king

Dave Hawkins from the band 'British lion' (The first side project for the legendary metal bassist and Iron Maiden founder member Steve Harris) was looking for a rock solid guitar that could take anything thrown at it, and yet still looked cool onstage. It was a chance encounter at Lister Guitars in Lowestoft where the owner Pete introduced Dave to the Fret-King guitar range, and in particular the FKV75HBK Black Label Esprit V. “It just felt right straight away” says Dave “and I just knew I had to get my hands on a couple.

"It played and sounded excellent. I was curious to try Jerry's pickup and electronics setup on a semi acoustic body and rosewood fingerboard…"

An enthusiastic John emailed over "The guitar arrived safely and it's fantastic! I used it last night for a short performance and it sounded and played really well. Tonight I'll give it more if a workout on a full show and let you know my other thoughts, but first impression I love it!!"

Fret-King pedals reviewed in iGuitar magazine – and you can win them too!

Issue 21 of iGuitar magazine has just published a glowing review of the six new Fret-King effects pedals.

Reviewer Rick Graham gave the Clean Boost 4/5, and the Power Boost, Klassic Drive, Distortion XXX, Classic Wah and Line Doctor all got 4.5/5.

Rock said: “I was hoping for good things from these Fret-King pedals and I wasn't disappointed – as you can hear for yourself from our video. What I wasn't expecting, however, was the bottom line: the price. These are very well made FX and they perform at a very high level. The price, however, is pitched surprisingly low for a premium quality brand. Do make a point of checking them out – they're all great value for money!”

The Fret-King FX range is in stores now, and is available on this website right now for UK and Eire customers to order direct.

iGuitar is also offering one lucky reader the chance to win the entire range of Fret-King pedals, along with a Kinsman Ultima pedalboard to house them in! If you want to be in with a chance of bagging them for yourself, then head over to iGuitar to see how to get your name in the hat!

Fret-King signature artist Gregg Wright inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall Of Fame.

Blues guitar supremo Gregg Wright has been inducted into the globally-revered Louisiana Music Hall Of Fame.

The former Michael Jackson guita
rist, and current Fret-King
signature artist, who is now thought of as the 'King Of The Rockin' Blues', joins an incredible list of musicians – including the likes of Elvis Presley, Fats Domino, Louis Armstrong, James Burton, Buddy Guy, Lead Belly, Tim McGraw and Jerry Lee Lewis – in receiving the honour.

Gregg said: "I am humbled and honoured to inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame! So much of America's music and culture started right here in Louisiana... jazz, blues, rock 'n' roll, zydeco, and so much more. I urge everyone to support the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame. A sincere thanks to [Hall of Fame founder] Mike Shepherd, the Hall and the great music fans of Louisiana!"

Gregg's career began in the '70s, when he began to set the US's southern circuit alight with his incendiary show, but it was after his move to Los Angeles in 1980 that things really picked up. Opening shows for blues legends like Albert KingFreddie King and many others, Gregg really learned the blues game from the masters of the genre. He then went on to become a top session guitarist, winning awards, and doing albums and tours with many of pop music's elite – including Michael JacksonMick Fleetwood, and many more.

These days, Gregg tours the world with his own band, and he's recently worked together with guitar guru Trev Wilkinson and Fret-King to create the Fret-King Black Label Corona 'GWR' artist model. Built to Gregg's favoured specs, the Corona GWR recreates the vibe of the axe he played while on the Michael Jackson Victory tour in the '80s. With a UK retail price of £699, the guitar features Wilkinson hardware and pickups – including the unique Fret-King Vari-coil control, which allows the player to wind the stacked P90 bridge pickup to absolutely authentic bridge single coil – a maple neck and fingerboard, and an eye-catching white and red 'rising sun' finish

Gregg says: “The GWR is without a doubt the very best guitar I've owned or played. The sound, look and feel of it is absolutely killer! What a tone! These days, when I go in to do a show or session, I feel as if I'm carrying a secret weapon...”
